csr Gielissen

Planet & profit

Our goal is to leave no ecological footprint behind. CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) within Gielissen is an iterative process where we apply the principle of ‘plan-do-check-act’ within a number of linked work groups. CSR can be seen in the procurement policy at Gielissen - sustainable purchasing. We also digitalize as many processes a possible and color printing is limited. Additionally, as a leader in our industry, we take an active role within the CSR organization.

Energy

We are focused on energy efficiency and actively steer the company toward decreasing our electricity and gas consumption. When our current contracts are extended, they are automatically adapted to green standards. Additionally, all of our computer monitors are energy efficient.

Recycling

Reducing waste by recycling and/or reusing materials is our top priority. As much as possible, Gielissen works with certified wood products and where applicable, paint systems on location are water-based. Upon replacement, our lease fleet will consist exclusively of energy class A, B or C vehicles. Transport and logistical resources are arranged on demand.

FSC Certified

For a company that uses a lot of wood and wood products during production, as is the case with Gielissen Neos’ interior projects, the FSC CoC certification is proof of sustainable manufacturing. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization committed to responsible forest management world-wide. The certification demonstrates Gielissen’s dedication to the social, environmental and economic benefits of responsible foresting.

Certification of Chain of Custody (CoC) assures the (end) user that the wood or wood product is followed through all stages of processing and distribution and that the raw material for a product originates from well managed forests. CoC certification means that all companies in the supply chain, from the sawmill to the factory for the end product, are prepared to keep all FSC certified wood products separate from other products, both from a physical and administrative perspective.

Working together for a better environment

Gielissen collaborates with third parties to achieve a visual representation of our clients’ goals before translating these requirements into a feasible and functional product design. The design includes a complete overview of material use. We make conscious choices when it comes to materials and advise products with low environmental impact, which are competitively priced and meet the needs of our clients. Our clients are able to consider all materials prior to use. Additionally, we aim to avoid unnecessary use of protective covers and therefore prefer to place our materials on site as late in the building process as possible. As a client, you also have control over this process.

People

A company cannot be successful without great team members. Without the professionalism, dedication and commitment from our employees, Gielissen would not exist. Luckily, 9 times out of 10, good employees are happy employees – and vice versa. We aim to keep it that way.

Development

‘To stand still is to go backwards,’ it is popular to say and there is certainly a bit of truth to this expression. Everyone wants to report growth. We believe in the importance of career development and give our employees opportunities for continued learning within their discipline.

A good start is half the work

New employees are not simply thrown into the deep end. We offer both collective and individual introduction programs. It is our goal to create a solid foundation for your new role with Gielissen.

Personal Development Plan

Based on the yearly performance review, we ask that our employees and leadership work together to create a Personal Development Plan for the coming year. Using the PDP we provide relevant opportunities for growth and encourage our employees to acquire additional knowledge, experience and skills.

Development and training

The workplace is a perfect place to learn, but it’s not always possible to master all skills on the job – therefore we have a large annual budget for external training. Health and Wellness People who feel good, perform better. Therefore the health of our employees is of great importance. We have a company doctor and physical therapist who hold weekly on-site consultations.

Safety

We invest in a safe work environment for all of our employees. Our office environment is air conditioned and has adjustable work spaces. Our workshop and paint shop have been fitted with an entirely new ventilation system and forklifts are adaptable for people with disabilities. Additionally, dust reduction, noise reduction and hearing protection are standard practices. Furthermore we have access to mechanical aids to prevent injury from lifting and bending.

VCA Certification

Gielissen Neos and Botim have been officially VCA certified since January of 2010. VCA can be translated to ‘Safety, Health and Environment Checklist Contractors’, but it is much more. VCA is a multi-faceted and complete program where service providing companies can be tested and certified objectively and structurally on their VGM management system (which stands for Safety, Health and Environment).

BBL, apprenticeships and graduate projects

Many BBL (which translates to Accompanying Vocational Learning) students find that Gielissen is a great company for an apprenticeship. We are quite proud of that fact. Therefore we offer apprentiship opportunities and graduation projects for students interested in learning our industry.

Social Responsibility

We know that as an industry leader, we can help make a lasting and positive impact on the community where we live and work. We do that in a number of ways. As a company we are actively involved in several local and regional initiatives which have a positive impact on our environment. Additionally, for many years we have volunteered at a local animal shelter and have provided various materials. We have also helped build a vacation home for children with disabilities. CEO Bart Wigman, together with his wife, biked the long route from Eindhoven to Rome in order to raise money for the vacation home. The Glass House could also count on our support in the way of a substantial donation. Several colleagues banded together to raise money by organizing a spinning marathon. Of course, our name can be connected with many other individual and incidental initiatives as well. As one of the biggest and longest standing companies in the office park near the Eindhoven Airport, we are active contributors to the Business Contact Eindhoven Airport (OKEA), where we, along with other businesses in the region, work together with local government to improve our surroundings – whether it be economic, social or environmental.

Accredited Teaching Company

For a large number of educational disciplines, we serve as an “accredited teaching company”. We certainly have vast experience leading young people in our industry. We involve them in very large projects, of course with the necessary guidance and teaching.

Learning from one another

The basis of our internship program is the beleif that young people can learn a great deal and gain valuable experience within our company. But the opposite is also true – our employees can also learn from the interns. A fresh look at business is always a good thing. We expect a serious commitment from our interns and graduate students and in turn they can count on enthusiastic coaching and an inspiring work experience.
